About Maeve

With a farming background of bananas and cattle, I have always had a passion for the agricultural sector. Agriculture is an essential contributor to Australia's economy, food security and job availability. Therefore, I believe that it holds numerous opportunities for my future. Biology and Agricultural Science are the two subjects I feel most passionate about.

My enthusiasm towards these subjects sparked my interest in animal science. Knowledge about animal science would lead me to understand the possible improvements that can be made in Australia's agricultural sector.

As technology develops, advancements are constantly being made in understanding animal production and management. One specific area that I am particularly interested in is the advancement of estimated breeding values (EBV's). I am eager to learn more about this topic and how it can increase the efficiency of animal production and management.

I enjoy learning new things and taking risks. I know that a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at UQ, Gatton Campus will satisfy my curiosity and allow me to use my ambition to the best of my ability.

My aspirations upon finishing my Bachelor of Agricultural Science are to commence a future in refining livestock genetics to maximise production potential and increase ease of management. Providing farmers with the ability to improve specific traits to meet the specified requirements would have numerous benefits.

I want to be apart of the continuation of development in the world of genetics and help farmers to understand how they can improve their livestock. So many advancements have already been made in agriculture such as genetic heritability, genomics, reproduction and fertility.

I am extremely interested about how the persisting advancements of technology will allow us to comprehend the numerous further improvements that can be made in livestock production and management. This will boost the economic value of agriculture to Australia and possibly the world. I want to be a role model and an advocate to all young people interested in agriculture as I believe we are the future of farming.
